When PNG Celebrated Independence Day in India 🇵🇬❤️🇮🇳

A special evening of food, laughter and togetherness for PNG patients and families receiving treatment in India

For most people, Independence Day is a celebration of home—of family, familiar faces, traditional food, music, laughter and memories.

But for patients travelling overseas for medical treatment, important occasions can sometimes feel very different. They may be thousands of kilometres away from their families, friends and country at a time when they need comfort the most.

This year, on the occasion of Papua New Guinea’s 51st Independence Day, Medivisor India Treatment wanted to change that.

We brought together our patients and their families from Papua New Guinea who are currently in India for treatment for a special dinner and Independence Day celebration.

It was a simple evening—but it meant much more than a dinner.

There was laughter around the tables, conversations about home, shared memories, smiles and a genuine sense of togetherness. For a few hours, the hospital appointments, investigations and treatment schedules took a back seat, and the evening became about celebrating PNG, friendship and family.

“It felt a little like being back home.”

One of our PNG patients shared:

“We were worried that being in India, we would miss our Independence Day celebrations back home. But Medivisor organised this dinner for us, and we really enjoyed ourselves. It felt a little like being back home in PNG.”

Another patient said:

“Independence Day is important to us. If Medivisor had not done this, we probably would not have celebrated the day like this. We are very happy they made this effort for us.”

For Medivisor, these words meant more than any thank-you could.

Because our relationship with patients does not end with arranging a hospital appointment, coordinating treatment or helping them navigate India. We believe that when someone travels far from home for healthcare, care must extend beyond treatment.

Bringing a little piece of PNG to India

Speaking about the celebration, Kumar Sushant, Founder, CEO & MD of Medivisor India Treatment, said:

On PNG’s Independence Day, we simply wanted our patients and their families to feel the warmth, happiness and togetherness of home. India may be far from Papua New Guinea, but we hope that through care, friendship and compassion, we can make that distance feel a little smaller.”

And sometimes, a few hours spent together can make a place thousands of kilometres away feel just a little more like home.

As the evening came to an end, one message remained clear:

PNG may be far from India geographically, but the friendship between our people continues to grow—one patient, one family and one shared moment at a time.
