Dr. (Prof.) Purshotam Lal is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist and the visionary Chairman of the Metro Group of Hospitals. Widely regarded as the "Father of Interventional Cardiology in India," he has dedicated his career to transforming heart care by pioneering over 20 groundbreaking procedures. His mission has always been clear: to provide patients with safe, non-surgical alternatives to traditional open-heart surgery.
Since establishing the Metro Group of Hospitals in 1997, Dr. Lal has set new benchmarks for cardiac care in India. As the Director of Interventional Cardiology at the Metro Hospital and Heart Institute in Noida, he oversees a team dedicated to clinical excellence. His personal expertise lies in complex angioplasties, advanced stenting, and the non-surgical closure of heart holes, ensuring that even the most difficult cases receive world-class treatment.
Dr. Lal’s career is marked by extraordinary milestones that have changed the landscape of global medicine. In 1992, he performed the world’s first non-surgical closure of a heart hole (ASD) using a Monodisc Device, and in 2004, he achieved the world's first non-surgical Aortic Valve Replacement with a Core Valve. Driven by a passion for innovation, Dr. Lal was the first to introduce life-saving techniques like Slow Rotational Angioplasty, Coronary Atherectomy, and "Diamond Drilling" (Rotablator) to India. These advancements have made heart treatments more accessible and less invasive, significantly improving recovery times and patient outcomes across the country.
In recognition of his immense contribution to healthcare, Dr. Lal has been honored with some of India’s highest civilian awards, including the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.
