Dr. Praveen Chandra is a distinguished Indian cardiologist and the Chairman of Interventional Cardiology at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon. Recognized as a premier authority in angioplasty, he is proficient in the implementation of advanced medical devices and cutting-edge technologies. His extensive clinical background includes serving as the Director of Cardiac Cath Lab & Acute MI Services at Max Healthcare and as a Consultant Cardiologist at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center.
A pioneer in structural heart interventions, Dr. Chandra performed the first Percutaneous Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI/TAVR) without surgery in India. He also achieved the country’s first-ever percutaneous mitral valve repair, addressing critical needs in a region with high valvular disease prevalence. His clinical firsts include the introduction of the Angio Jet Thrombectomy Device, the launch of the Percutaneous Myocardial Laser Vascularization Program in Asia, and the first clinical use of FFR and Bioabsorbable stents in India.
In recognition of his monumental contributions to the field of medicine, the President of India conferred the prestigious Padma Shri upon Dr. Chandra. He has also received the Recognition Award for Success and Achievement in Angioplasty. His professional standing is further cemented by fellowships in the Endovascular Intervention Society of India and the Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC).
Dr. Chandra is a prolific contributor to medical literature, having authored or reviewed approximately 100 articles, abstracts, and reviews in leading national and international journals. He is a sought-after faculty member for global medical conferences and has demonstrated his leadership in education as the Organizer and Director of the AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction) course in New Delhi.
